Our
Services
Our program includes opportunities for children to have long periods
of uninterrupted free time with minimal restrictions. During this
time they will be able to play in the dress up area, block area,
music area, sand/water/art area or curl up in the reading area.
Outdoor time is vital to children's development and this will be
offered as often as possible weather permitting. In addition, our
staff will be using sign language with the children as we know this
allows many children to communicate their needs before verbal language
is developed and strengthens verbal language skills at the same
time.
Curriculum:
Each week's activities will be posted. The activities are well-balanced
for group and free play, and consist of learning activities that
will help your child develop his/her emotional, physical, intellectual
and social skills.

Parent
Involvement
At
Abundant Horizons, we operate under an Open Door Policy. Parents
are welcome to visit the facility at any time. Parents are encouraged
to take an active part in their child's care. Whether it is chaperoning
on field trips or offering suggestions for crafts, snacks, reading,
math, science, or whatever, your input is invaluable. It also
shows your child you want to be part of their experience
not
just drop them off and pick them up.
Children
and Electronic Technology
Abundant
Horizons believes that kids need to be kids and a child's play is
the best form of learning. Our research supports our claim that
kids do not need electronic technology until they are school age.
TV is passive and is considered "watched" whereas computers
are seen as interactive and thus "used". Because of this
BELIEF parents prefer their children to "use" computers
instead of "watching" TV and think that computer "use"
is better. In either case the child is not experiencing real life
experiences and not using their imagination.
Abundant Horizons
will strive to allow your children the opportunity to experience
real life experiences helping to develop their imagination, self
esteem and the opportunity to develop social skills through interaction
with their peers. Your children will have lots of opportunity to
experience hands on activities and learn through active play.
Meals
& Snacks
Meals
and snacks provided by Abundant Horizons are based on the guidelines
of the federal food guide. Breakfast is provided until 9 am. Children
coming to the daycare after 9 am should be fed before they arrive.
Lunch and a nutritious snack in the afternoon are provided for
your child.
A weekly menu
is posted in the arrival area for your review. Please let me know
if there is something on the menu that your child does not like
so other provisions (within reason) can be made.
Special Diets:
Parents are responsible for meals and snacks for children on special
diets.
Infant Food: Parents of infants are responsible for providing formula
and other baby foods.
Junk Food: With the exception of birthdays and special occasions,
junk food will not be served. Parents are asked NOT to send candy,
sweets, gum, and potato chips, or other unhealthy foods with their
child.
Naps
and Rest Periods
It
is a long day for children who attend daycare. Nap and rest time
at the facility is from 12:30 until 2:30 (approximately). All children
under five must take a rest period and will be provided a comfortable
rest area. Older children must have a rest period during this time
and will be supplied with quiet activities.
